Fall classes will run Oct 4-Nov 22, 2024. Details will be emailed to members sometime in early September.
We get a lot of questions about classes! Here are answers to some of the most common:
Q: How often do classes meet?
A: PCHE typically coordinates 2 sessions of classes per academic year, one in the fall and one in the spring. They meet one morning a week for 8 weeks each. Typically they have been on Fridays. Since classes are run completely by parents in our group, we do not make any promises about when they will be, how they will look, or even if they will be offered in a given semester.
Q: Who can take classes?
A: Classes are open to PCHE members only. If you'd like more information about becoming a member, head over to our Membership page.
Q: What do you mean by "cooperative"?
A: Cooperative classes are put on by the group, for the group. All of our classes are member-taught and organized. There are no paid teachers or staff! We expect every family participating in classes to contribute in some way. Usually this will include either teaching or assisting with a class and helping to clean up afterwards.
Q: Wait, I thought I already paid my membership fee? Why do I need to pay for classes too?
A: There is a separate fee for classes, apart from the annual membership fee for PCHE. This helps us cover group insurance, building fees, and supplies.
Q: What classes are being offered this session? How do I register?
A: Class details are emailed out to members shortly before each session. There are no registration forms or class schedules online, since classes are for members only.
Q: I'm interested in teaching a class. How do I sign up?
A: Head over to the For Members page and fill out the Class Description form. A board member will be in touch to help work out the details.
Q: But I thought co-op classes were all PCHE did? What else do you have going on?
A: Lots! We are a community supporting and enjoying one another all year long, not just during classes. Holiday parties/gatherings, field trips, Mom-to-Mom events, Historical Character Party, Presentation Night, Project Fair, Science Fair, bowling, Teen Banquet, Graduation, and park days are some of the events we've coordinated in the past. Also remember that PCHE is a member-run, co-operative group. If there is an event you want to see happen, we'll do our best to help you organize it!
More info about absences, our sickness policy, supply fees, and more can be found in our Member Handbook on the Membership page.
